Sunroom loveseat

Welcome to Collateral Blessings.

This blog is like my favorite love seat in my sun room, overlooking my garden.  A comfy place where I go to share everything that inspires me,  makes me laugh or even makes me cry.

While you are here, I hope you feel like you can open your mind and your heart.  Whether you are interested in strengthening your faith or your marriage or sharing  about parenting a child with special needs or a “child” who is approaching adulthood, I hope this blog gives you some heartwarming things upon which to reflect and share or even something about which to laugh  – even if sometimes that something is me.

Occasionally, I’ll simply share  a great quote or song that struck me that day or comment on a book or article I’ve read.  Other times, I might just share some of my craft,  design  or gardening projects –  I dream of waking up one day with the amazing design skills of Joanna Gaines, the marital advice-giving skills of Shaunti Feldhahn or the overall wisdom of Maya Angelou.

And truthfully, there are going to be those days, you know those days — those days like yesterday when I spent the entire day on the phone with insurance companies and doctor’s offices and other agencies sorting out issues regarding Matthew’s services and insurance denials and scheduling for coverage for services that haven’t been staffed for weeks and prescriptions that are being denied and durable medical goods that are being denied and the list goes on and on and on — when I find it really hard to find the “blessing” in that part of my life and I just want to write about my pet peeves and what makes me angry, not inspired!  Well, this blog will likely contain a bit of that also because, well, it’s MY blog!

After all, the one thing all those topics have in common are they inspire me or, at the very least, they challenge me,  make me laugh and cry and want to tear my hair out sometimes!  And, for the most part, they are all things that became collateral blessings in my life because my life didn’t go according to my original plan and that I have learned and am learning as I have navigated the twists and turns of life.

So, grab a cup of tea or coffee, a glass of wine or, heck, a  margarita for those pet-peeve days and sit back, relax and join me on this journey!
